Korea’s outside hitter Kim Jihan celebrated his birthday with volleyball fans from around the world, greeted at the fan zone at the Smart Araneta Coliseum by adoring supporters who even prepared a cake for the 26-year-old.
South Korea was coming off a valiant four-set battle against world No. 9 Argentina in Pool C. Despite the loss, Kim received a special gift from his fans.
Supporters flocked to the fan zone to celebrate Kim’s birthday, even as South Korea fell to 0-2 in pool play.
Kim and South Korea return to action against Finland on Thursday, September 18, still at the Big Dome.
The fan zone has become a staple of volleyball events in the Philippines, giving fans the chance for close and personal encounters with their favorite athletes and coaches from around the world.
At the World Championship, it has also served as a welcome reprieve for players and fans alike after high-octane matches on the Taraflex court.
