FIVB President Fabio Azevedo spoke highly of the Philippines’ hosting of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship when he met with officials of the Local Organizing Committee to ride the LRT-2 train brandished with visuals of the World Championship.
Azevedo raved about the unique culture and fan appreciation that made the Philippines’ hosting all the more impressive midway through the tournament.
“Filipinos, they love our sport. Filipinos, they are so warmly welcoming each and every one of us coming to the country,” he said.
“I can assure you that each and every one of the athletes and their entourage, they are here to perform during the world championships. They are extremely happy,” he continued.
The tournament is midway through the Round of 16 with defending champion Italy and World No. 1 Poland already through to the quarterfinals, set to take on Belgium and Turkiye, respectively.
With more games to come and stakes rising to another level, Philippine National Volleyball Federation and Asian Volleyball Confederation President Ramon “Tats” Suzara urged fans to continue supporting the event and come to watch the games.
“I think as an organizer, we're doing well. The expectations are unexpected, including our Alas men's team. We're on the right track, and I hope more fans will be coming, even without the Alas team, for the Round of 16 quarterfinals, semis, and finals,” he said.
The Round of 16 continues Monday, September 22 to Tuesday, September 23, before the quarterfinals on the 24th and 25th.
The semifinals and finals are set over the weekend, with the final day of competition set on Sunday, September 28. All matches will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
